Short and Sweet

Easter weekend was started off right with my birthday on Friday. My husband had to work late so Aubrey and I went to my parent's house for dinner and cake on Friday night. My mom made my favorite pistachio cake- which is a amazing and not that bad for you either! If you're interested you can find the recipe here.

My day didn't start out so great though. Aubrey was in a cranky, clingy mood for most of the day. I think she might be teething again. It's been so long since she cut a tooth, I almost forgot about the whole teething thing! She was much better once we were at the party though with everyone because she loves visiting. Such a social butterfly she is.

Ugh I'm having such a hard time looking at 30. I don't know exactly why but the thought of not being a twenty-something really isn't sitting well with me. Knowing that I have less than a year left of getting away with saying that I'm a twenty-something is no bueno.

Birthday flowers from my little brother. Such a sweetheart.

J. Crew lobster sweater. My mom surprised me with this sweater that she knows I've been watching (and waiting for it to go on sale). In case you missed my monthly updates for the first year of Aubrey's life, we call her Lobster sometimes. It's just a cute/funny nickname that stuck so we pretty much collect lobster memorabilia now.

My husband was working in New Jersey for the day and he got home pretty late but he did manage to find this amazing bakery called Dolce Calabria that sells french macarons. Pistachio and almond macarons are my favorite so so stocked up. These are so amazingly delicious. I've had macarons from Laduree (from the original store in Paris) and I've also had them from Bouchon in NYC, among other places but I have to say these were the BEST! The filling is what really made it and I love that there were small chunks of the actual pistachio in the filling too.

Speaking of pistachio! I really don't know how this happened but we stopped for ice cream on Saturday on our way home from visiting my in-laws. My husband insisted on going to Mannings ice cream shop because President George Bush went there when he was in town. Well now I see what the hype is all about because this was some really good, fresh, creamy ice cream.

...and that right there is my pistachio filled weekend for ya.

Up next - Easter Sunday! I hope have that post up tomorrow.

Exploring & Egg Hunting

This past weekend was beautiful. It was finally warm outside and we took full advantage of the weather and made sure that we were out and about all day. We ventured out of our tiny town to a nearby town to do a little exploring. We checked out this "castle" that is filled will cute shops and a market that carries locally grown, locally made fresh and organic foods, soaps, lotions, etc. It's safe to say that it's my new favorite spot.
Just outside of the castle is a separate building that is coffee house and it has this pretty outside seating area. They carry all kinds of delicious pastries and baked goods... and they even have french macaroons!

We also brought Aubrey to her very first Easter egg hunt on Saturday. She loved picking up the eggs and she really loved seeing all of the little people that are just her size. She loves a good people watching sesh.

We really tried to get her to warm up to the Easter bunny. I thought we could sneak in a photo if I stayed with her and held her but...

I was wrong! Just when I thought she was warming up to him she freaked out.  Poor bunny.

Do your kids like the bunny?

A Peek Inside Aubrey's Basket

My favorite holiday is fast approaching and I'm just about finished shopping for Aubrey's basket. We are going to an egg hunt and Easter parade this coming weekend and I'm beyond excited for the festivities to begin. We've been practicing our egg hunting skills so I think we'll be all ready for Saturday. Last year was Aubrey's first Easter and it was a tough basket to fill because she was only a couple of months old but this year was so much easier. I had so much fun shopping for her basket this year so I thought I'd share some of the things that I picked up in case anyone is short on ideas.

I had a blast from the past when I was in Old Navy and I spotted these jellies! I  couldn't decide on a gold or silver sparkles so I just got both. I'm not sure if I'm getting her open toe sandals this year because she's new to this walking thing and I'm so afraid of her scraping her little toes, so we'll see...

Also pictured here are bunny bubbles (Walmart), a super cute wind-up bath toy (Target), a glittered purse (Old Navy), and a braided glitter bracelet (Old Navy).

I found this little gem of a book in Marshalls. If you've never thought to look in Marshalls or TJ Maxx for children's books you are missing out because they usually have a really nice selection of books there, at reasonable prices too. This book is so sweet and such a perfect bedtime book because it's a combination of a story and lullabies.

...and finally the "Boo Boo Bunny!" I've never heard of this before but we came upon this at a local craft fair and it's a pretty clever concept. It's a washcloth folded into a bunny shape with a plastic ice cube inside that you can pop in the freezer to have on hand for any "boo boos." We're probably going to make good use of this little bunny because Aubrey is quite the explorer and her newest talent is climbing- on everything she can possibly think of.
It's cute at first but so nerve-wracking at the same time.

The Incredible Egg

It finally went above 50 degrees here today and I cannot be more excited for the warmer weather. I was really starting to have my doubts because just yesterday we woke up to snow on the ground! It's been such a long, cold, snowy winter here and I am so done with it. I've been busy over here decorating for my favorite holiday and loving all of the brights and pastels around the house.
I picked up this Hello Kitty basket at Target for Aubrey's first egg hunt at a local park in a few weeks. I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for this to happen.

We've been having lots of fun with eggs around here too. Aubrey loves when I give her an egg filled with her snacks. She shakes it around because she loves the sound it makes and then she cracks it right open, spills them all over the floor and has a feast. Needless to say I clean my floors way more often than I should have to.

Eggs also make great bath toys. She loves filling them with water and pouring them out. Oh by the way, we finally made the transition a few weeks ago out of the baby tub and into the big girl tub. I waited longer than I probably should have but I was nervous about it, I guess. She did great and she loves having all of that extra room to play around in.

We had our first bubble experience last weekend. I bought them for her Easter basket but I couldn't wait until Easter to break them out. Who's the child here? It was too cold to go outside so opted for an indoor bubble party which was a little messy but SO worth it. She was mercerized by the bubbles and loved it. It's going to be a fun summer!
...and today we ventured outside to play- finally! We took out our beach toys and played a little game of pretend we're on a warm sunny beach somewhere.

I went shopping this past weekend for Aubrey's Easter basket so I plan on doing a post soon on what I picked up. I have to say it was much easier to find things this year than it was last year.

Are you ready for Easter?
